Hello all – sorry for the confusion over the past few days. Matthew & The Atlas is still alive and well, but we are going through some changes at the moment so I just wanted to write a short message about it.
Matthew & The Atlas was a project I started as a solo performer 3 years ago and over the course of time I was lucky enough to meet a group of people who wanted to get involved with the project and add their own ideas to it and help it develop.
We spent the last 2 years playing together and it took us to some beautiful places and I’ve met some amazing people along the way. This would not have happened without the four other musicians in Matthew and the Atlas, nor without the efforts of some incredible people who we’ve been lucky enough to work with, and the amazing support from everyone who has come to our shows and listened to our records. I never expected such support and I am very thankful for it, as I know the rest of the band have been too.
Coming off our recent US tour was an opportunity to pause and take stock. Harry decided he wanted to spend more time working on his own material, and I myself have come to feel that MATA has gone as far as it can go in its current form. It is because of this that I have decided to go back to where I started from and perform as Matthew and the Atlas on my own, at least for a short while. This has been a very tough decision, not taken lightly.
One of the great and challenging things about writing for a band full of songwriters is that you feel a healthy pressure to match their own considerable talents which I hope has helped me improve as a songwriter along the way. I’ve often found inspiration in their songwriting, and it’s been a constant hand on my back to push me forward, which I’m very grateful for! Below are some links to the music and projects they are working on, so if you get a chance please have a listen, I know you’ll enjoy!
