Matthew & The Atlas

Hello all – sorry for the confusion over the past few days. Matthew & The Atlas is still alive and well, but we are going through some changes at the moment so I just wanted to write a short message about it.
Matthew & The Atlas was a project I started as a solo performer 3 years ago and over the course of time I was lucky enough to meet a group of people who wanted to get involved with the project and add their own ideas to it and help it develop.

We spent the last 2 years playing together and it took us to some beautiful places and I’ve met some amazing people along the way. This would not have happened without the four other musicians in Matthew and the Atlas, nor without the efforts of some incredible people who we’ve been lucky enough to work with, and the amazing support from everyone who has come to our shows and listened to our records. I never expected such support and I am very thankful for it, as I know the rest of the band have been too.

Coming off our recent US tour was an opportunity to pause and take stock. Harry decided he wanted to spend more time working on his own material, and I myself have come to feel that MATA has gone as far as it can go in its current form. It is because of this that I have decided to go back to where I started from and perform as Matthew and the Atlas on my own, at least for a short while. This has been a very tough decision, not taken lightly.

One of the great and challenging things about writing for a band full of songwriters is that you feel a healthy pressure to match their own considerable talents which I hope has helped me improve as a songwriter along the way. I’ve often found inspiration in their songwriting, and it’s been a constant hand on my back to push me forward, which I’m very grateful for! Below are some links to the music and projects they are working on, so if you get a chance please have a listen, I know you’ll enjoy!

I’m sorry to hear that the band is changing form, because you were excellent to listen to both live and recorded. It sounds like its the best thing for all of you though, and so I wish you the best. Have a great Christmas and a happy New Years, and come back to the East Coast soon please. :)

  2. This makes me sad :(

  3. It’s been a privilege watching this musical project evolve over the past year and a half. The phenomenal songwriting talent that’s contributed to your series of well-crafted EPs is much appreciated. So glad I got to experience this ‘dream-team’ band live in the November U.S. tour– it was on my bucket-list. Just downloaded the Love.Stop.Repeat album (gorgeous, by the way) and I’ll look forward to hearing the offerings from various bandmembers when they become available. Will wait patiently, though- I know musical genius can’t be rushed.
    Best,

    although it breaks my heart
all the best for the musical future of all of you

  5. There’s nothing like hearing your tunes being played beautifully by a talented band, hearing those songs come to life in a different way. There is also nothing like being in a room with your voice and a guitar, listening to the raw beauty and power of one voice and 6 strings.

Either way, you’re fantastically talented so you can’t go far wrong…
